Former Debenhams, Chatham | Project Progress Update

July 2025

We’re making strong headway at the former Debenhams building on Chatham High Street.

Following the successful strip-out of the 1st floor, we’ve now entered Phase 2 of the works — a critical stage involving the decommissioning and removal of internal mechanical and electrical elements, including the redundant customer escalators and passenger lifts.

Careful planning and methodical execution have allowed us to safely navigate these high-risk tasks within a confined live urban environment.

Health & Safety remains our top priority throughout. All works are carried out in accordance with our Construction Phase Plan (CPP), with RAMS reviewed daily and exclusion zones clearly established around all active work areas. Using a disused lift shaft as a controlled waste chute for 2nd floor strip-out debris has further improved site logistics and reduced manual handling risks.

Our continued collaboration with Medway Council and their consultants at Medway Development Company has enabled excellent coordination and maintained momentum across all stages of the project, ensuring compliance with both programme milestones and regulatory requirements.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this project!
