Project Completion Announcement – Debenhams, Chatham
BBL is proud to announce the successful completion of the Debenhams strip out and demolition project in partnership with Medway Council and their consultants Medway Development Company.
This project has been a significant undertaking for our business — both in scale and complexity — and has truly tested the strength, collaboration, and expertise of every department within the BBL team.
From site management and procurement to health & safety, logistics, and on-site coordination, the demands on materials, labour, and operational planning have been extensive. Yet, through strong teamwork, determination, and commitment we are delighted to have delivered this project safely and successfully.
The works involved the full internal strip out back to shell and core of the former Debenhams building in Chatham and included:
- Careful sequencing and structural dismantling of all internal elements
- Safe management and removal of waste materials
- Coordination between multiple trade contractors and suppliers
- Adherence to strict health and safety regulations
- Detailed site management to minimise disruption and maintain efficiency
From the very first day on site, it has been an all-hands-on-deck effort. We would like to extend our thanks to everyone who played a part in this Project — our dedicated BBL site and office teams, our trusted external contractors, and our partners at Medway Council and their consultants Medway Development Company.
We also want to express our gratitude to members of the public for your continued patience and cooperation throughout the project. We understand that road and car park closures may have caused temporary inconvenience, but these measures were vital to ensure a safe and secure working environment for both our team and the community.
This project stands as a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration, planning, and perseverance — and reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting urban regeneration and safe redevelopment across the South East.
We’ll soon be publishing a comprehensive case study on this project, detailing the challenges faced, our approach, and the key outcomes. Keep an eye on our website for more!
